Samantha Henry Vs. The Scott Pilgrim Web Chat

Today I well and truly ventured into geekdom and took part in my first web chat with the cast of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. I am very excited about the film. I have the comics (yet to read, but will do before I see the film) but what excited me most about this web chat was that none other than Superman himself, Brandon Routh was one of the cast up for the chat!

I decided to as a web chat virgin I couldn’t go straight in with the BIG question – “Brandon will you be playing Superman again in The Man of Steel?” but luckily someone else did. Brandon’s response was “We will wait and see, I’d love to.”

“Who would win in a fight between Todd & Clark Kent? Definately Todd, but Clark would probably outwit him.” Brandon Routh commenting on a question from a fan
Many questions were answered about Scott Pilgrim as well as favourite sandwiches, films and computer games (World of Warcraft is a big hit with Routh and he hopes to be one of the cast in the film adaption).

The web chat took place on Empire’s website over lunchtime, so sadly was only about 30 minutes long, and so many questions were desperate to be answered. As the only sci-fi/film geek in my friendship group I must say it was nice to be amongst my fellow geeks, people who have opinions and the same excitment for past/present and up and coming film and TV shows.

I can say it was a fun experience and one I will be certainly taking part in again.

Oh and while looking for pictures for this post I stumbled across this great picture of Brandon and just wanted to share it with you all, enjoy!

New Vampire Diaries Promo

For those of you that haven't seen it yet, here is the new promo video for the Vampire Diaries season 2.

I'm hoping it continues to avoid the storyline in the books, as way more interesting!

Hawaii Five-0 the music

My good Twitter friend TalkinToU showed me this evening what the final theme tune for the long awaited remake of Hawaii Five-0 will sound like. Here is a behind the scenes video:

Starring Alex O'Loughlin, the brilliant star of Moonlight & The Backup Plan, I'm hoping this is finally the show that gets a long run for Alex.

Watch out for it on Monday September 20th in the states!

Deep thinking Sci-Fi

As the sci-fi geek in my group of friends I expected that I would have plenty of people to choose from who would want to see Inception with me. Sadly they had made plans to see it with other people, but the lovely Ellie A (there is more than one Ellie in my group of gal pals) stepped in to watch it with me, although not really the sort of film she would want to see I promised her it would be something that she would enjoy.

The film was amazing, as always with Christopher Nolan (so can't wait to see what he is doing for the next Superman & Batman films), and although confusing like the Matrix there are more similarities than just the gravity defying fight scenes.

I was not one of these people that found the film confusing, but I this may be down to my past experience of this genre. Back in 2004 I wrote my dissertation on the Matrix: Reality & Simulation, referencing Jean Baudrillard, religion, etc and looking deep into the film that changed science fiction at the end of the last century.

Although Inception is not a film that has changed science fiction, it addresses similar theories to the Matrix, and in my opinion is exactly what the genre has needed after a decade of sequels and remakes.

For those of you that are yet to see this film, I urge you to see it, if the theory confuses you, I Heart Huckabees is a great quirky film which actually discusses them in a way that is easy to understand. It's also a great comparison to see a film that looks at the same theory but in a completely different way, there's certainly no white rabbit in it... just a white sheet!

What other films have got you confused?
