Counting down to Bad News

Were you one of the many people that watched Monday night's How I Met Your Mother and wondered like mad what the numbers counting down were all about? Or were you like me, not paying that close attention (as it was late and you were tired) and didn't notice until 10 on Robin's jacket, 9 on the doctors file, etc (the numbers started at 50 so yes I was a little slow). Well, if you didn't know *SPOILER ALERT* the numbers were counting down to what was the title of the episode and can only be described as Bad News. Yes sadly after hearing good news that he can father a child, Marshall found out from Lilly that his father had passed away :(

Execs on the show have revealed that this episode and storyline was planned from the start. The first 12 episodes were leading up to this moment and we can expect the next 12 to follow this moment.

I have to admit this episode had me balling my eyes out - Grey's Anatomy style at the end. I hope that this is the last time HIMYM makes me cry as I have plenty of other viewing for that!

Why Barney Stinson is AWESOME

If you still haven't watched How I Met Your Mother, what are you waiting for? The show might be about main character Ted telling his children the story of how he met their mother, and yes we might all be waiting and guessing who that mother will be, BUT that is not the reason for watching this show. The sole reason for watching is for the brilliant Barney Stinson, played by Neil Patrick Harris. Barney is full of catch phrases that you can't help but say such as 'Awesome', 'Legen...wait for it...dary, Legendary' and 'Suit up'. And the latest season's second episode provided another reason to love Mr Stinson. Bringing back Barney's gay black brother, we learn more about Barney's past and how when it comes to his childhood he is a bit naive about his everything his mother has told him. We meet who we think may be Barney's dad, but is in fact his brothers father (still Barney thinks its his father, although that is impossible). Barney provides some great entertainment annoying his brother and new found father by joining in on their 'bonding' song.

Neil Patrick Harris has a background in singing, just check out Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-long for a great example, so when you mix that with his comic acting it makes for laugh-out-loud entertainment. Not forgetting Jason Segal of course, who wrote and performed the brilliant Slap song, but that's another story....

How I met an awesome season premiere

How I Met Your Mother is a show that I got into late (but not as late as British television), but its a show that I'm so glad I stuck with as I love how the writers keep stories running across the seasons. Take the slap bet, Marshall had five slaps for Barney, and over about three seasons four of those have been taken (the fourth had a countdown and a song). There is one slap to go, it could be at anytime (the suspense is killing me) but when it happens it will be legen...(wait for it)...dary!

The new season kicked off with a bang, an old girlfriend of Ted's appears with a friend (the one who's flatmate we know will be the mother), but could this friend be 'the one'? All I will say is you will have to watch, the answer may come to you before you see it, but it certainly won't before you watch the episode!

Marshall (played by the brilliant Jason Segel of 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall' fame) & Lillie's plans to start a family don't get the best start, I expect this will bring some entertainment through the season, and as I always happily see from HIMYM, in a different way to Friends. Many people compare this show to Friends, and yes it follows a group of friends, but what it does that Friends failed on is to remember everything they have mentioned and never run a conflicting story (think the episode where Chandler cries at everything and later in the season there is an episode where he can't cry, as he's not a cry guy?!)

What am I looking forward to in this season? The return of Barney's black gay brother - awesome!
