Happy Lostgiving!

This week's How I Met Your Mother was AWESOME! A guest appearance from Jorge Garcia, aka Hurley from Lost and what do you get? Lots of Lost references. From sending a rude text to a random stranger with random numbers (4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42) to being 'stuck on an island for what seemed like forever' this episode was certainly on par with my favourite 'Slapsgiving' episode.

I wonder what will happen next year?!

To all my US readers happy Slapsgiving!

From A to Lost

Looking for the perfect Christmas present for the ultimate Lost fan, but can't afford the complete boxset? The look no further as the Lost Encyclopedia is what you need! Of course I only use Christmas as an excuse, most of you reading this post will be wanting this book for yourself rather than someone else. In that case, if like me you constantly need answers whilst watching a show (I have a Superman encyclopedia for Smallville and Superman movies!) then the Lost Encyclopedia will just be an excuse for you to go back and watch the entire series with the answers to all those questions in your hands.

As with all encyclopedia's this is an easy to navigate book, simply turn to the index at the back, look up what you are looking for, be it Sawyer or black smoke and viola, every page where that character, thing, etc is metioned will be displayed. In fact there are over 400 pages of facts and images on characters, items, locations, plotlines, relationships and of course mythologies. I've tried to catch it out, but honestly I think everything you could possibly wonder is in this book.

Now all I need to do it read it from cover to cover and hopefully all those questions that never got answered in the show will become clear!

The Lost Encyclopedia is authored by Paul Terry, Editor of Lost: The Official Magazine and Tara Bennett, editor of the US edition of SFX magazine and is available from all good and DK.

An Event-ful Pilot

Now as a sci-fi geek I'm a big fan of shows such as Smallville, Supernatural, True Blood, etc. But the shows that really got me excited were Lost, Heroes and Flash Forward. So when I saw the trailer for The Event I knew it was a show that I had to watch. And it didn't dissapoint. As Lost did with the black smoke and polar bear, The Event proves within the first episode that there is more to this story than what the trailer shows you (if you've seen the trailer you will know it doesn't show you what is the event, but what isn't).

From all of the season premiere's I have seen so far (there is still a few to go) it is easily the one that has left me sitting eagerly awaiting the next episode the most. I only hope that it doesn't go down the route of Lost, Heroes and Flash Forward and try and stretch something into a long running show which is never meant to be more than one or two seasons long and ruin it. Sometimes there is a great idea for a show but there just isn't enough legs for it to be long running. That's ok, let it end after six episode or two season, at least it will be end on a high and always be remembered as a cult hit!

What did you think of the first episode?

Top 10 J.J. Abrams

For those of you that are watching Cloverfield (or watched it depending on when you're reading this post) here are my top 10 (in no particular order) J.J. Abrams movies and TV shows:

Alias: Starring Jennifer Garner with fabulous pink hair. I love a sci-fi Sspy drama although Chuck is my new favourite Alias was brilliant. I also here a little rumour that there may be a remake of the series coming soon.

Lost: It's had it's ups and downs, but I have stuck with it (although most of the last season is sitting on my V+ box waiting to be watched). It is truly a show that has changed the shape of recent sci-fi dramas and shows such as Heroes and Flash Forward have followed.

Cloverfield: Taking the actor/cameraman concept of the Blair Witch project and throwing in a great big...something that we never quite see. At the end of the film you will feel frustrated that it ends, but appreciate that it ends at the right point. But bring on Cloverfield 2 (only if its not going to ruin the first film)

Star Trek: A good take on the movie franchise and great casting.

What About Brian: Ok, maybe not his best work, but it was a series that had potential, then it went and became 'Brian's fine but what about all his friends'

Fringe: It's not a series that I've been watching, but I've always heard good things, my friends watch it and from the little I have seen it's a show that I need to watch...from the start!

Forever Young: I always loved this film as a kid, not exactly a film you would associate with J.J Abrams, but he sold the script for $2 million in 1992 (and Elijah Wood is so adorable!)

Armageddon: Another screenwriting example from J.J. Abrams, boy he does love his disaster movies

Regarding Henry: Starring Harrison Ford as a man who survives a shooting but looses his memory

Sadly from what is left that I have seen, Pallbearer and Mission Impossible III I can't really give either the last place in the top 10. So I shall leave it blank, but give you a list of what is in the pipeline from Mr. Abrams and perhaps there will be something that is worthy of being added to the list:

Star Trek sequel (untitled)
Mission Impossible IV
Little Darlings
Undercovers (TV)
Morning Glory
Super 8 (rumours are going around that it is an ET remake or something related to Close Encounters of the Third Kind)

Would appreciate your comments on those included in the list
