Smallville Christmas break recap
It was only a couple of weeks ago that Prince William and Kate announced their engagement and now they have been followed by Lois & Clark! The last time this happened in The New Adventures of Superman: Lois & Clark the show flopped. Luckily Smallville is on it's final season, and as well know when Clark becomes Superman he follows Lois round like a lost puppy, but she is too in love with Superman to notice. So I expect Lois knowing Clark's secret and the engagement is will not be lasting until the end of the season.
So we are 11 episodes in to the final season of Smallville, and now have to wait until January 28 for the next episode and there's a lot hanging in the air. Not just the engagement, but Watchtower is closed Clark and his fellow heroes have gone underground and Chloe sent a parcel to Lois so she may also be back on the scene too.
Now to enjoy the Christmas entertainment until the show's return.

Sonic Screwdriver FOR REAL!
News announced today reveals that Doctor Who’s infamous tool could soon be part of every mans tool kit. OMG I hear all sci-fi cry (like me), I could soon own my very own Sonic Screwdriver?! Well, Ultrasonic engineers at Bristol University and The Big Bang: UK Young Scientists and Engineers Fair are uncovering how a real life version of the fictional screwdriver - which uses sonic technology to open locks and undo screws - could be created.
Professor of Ultrasonics, Bruce Drinkwater, who is working with The Big Bang to inspire young scientists of the future, says the answer lies in ultrasonic sound waves. By operating the waves at frequencies way beyond the realms of human hearing, they can be used to apply forces to objects.
The technology is already being trialled in modern manufacturing to fix parts together and ultrasonic force fields are being developed within the medical field to separate diseased cells from healthy cells. Professor Drinkwater and The Big Bang team are now exploring whether super powerful versions of these sound beams could bring Doctor Who’s iconic device to life.
Anyway, I won’t confuse you with ALL the details, if you want to know more then book your tickets for The Big Bang at the ICC London ExCeL from 10 – 12 March 2011

No Ordinary Family jumps across the pond
This one's for all my UK readers. If you've been reading about a new sci-fi show called No Ordinary Family (see my earlier post on the show) then fear not as it is coming to digital channel Watch from 11th January 2011! Think of it as a light heartened Heroes, except their a family that were one day normal, and the next day no so normal. With a dad that creates e-fits in a police station, a scientist mum and two teenagers this show has plenty of drama, comedy and action to keep you entertained.
I've seen a few episodes ahead and from what I've seen it looks to be a promising show so add it to your New Year's list of things to watch.

Grey’s Anatomy the Musical?!
Yes, Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes revealed in an interview with TV Guide that she and her team of writers are currently working on a musical episode. But that won’t fit with the show’s style I hear you cry?! Never fear as Rhimes always ensures she produces the best for the medical drama. We’re not going to see a musical episode a la Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It’s not going to be a Broadway style show, but an episode that focuses on songs that show has made famous sung by the cast.
Rhimes says: “Part of the way I figured out that we could do this was to take the songs that our show has made iconic and have them be sung by our cast members, as opposed to singing Broadway songs or singing some songs by a known artist. We're simply singing songs that Grey's Anatomy has made famous.”
With two singing stars in Chandra Wilson and Sara Ramirez (Ramirez is a Tony award winner) I'm sure it will be an entertaining episode.

Happy Lostgiving!
This week's How I Met Your Mother was AWESOME! A guest appearance from Jorge Garcia, aka Hurley from Lost and what do you get? Lots of Lost references. From sending a rude text to a random stranger with random numbers (4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42) to being 'stuck on an island for what seemed like forever' this episode was certainly on par with my favourite 'Slapsgiving' episode.
I wonder what will happen next year?!
To all my US readers happy Slapsgiving!

From A to Lost
Looking for the perfect Christmas present for the ultimate Lost fan, but can't afford the complete boxset? The look no further as the Lost Encyclopedia is what you need! Of course I only use Christmas as an excuse, most of you reading this post will be wanting this book for yourself rather than someone else. In that case, if like me you constantly need answers whilst watching a show (I have a Superman encyclopedia for Smallville and Superman movies!) then the Lost Encyclopedia will just be an excuse for you to go back and watch the entire series with the answers to all those questions in your hands.
As with all encyclopedia's this is an easy to navigate book, simply turn to the index at the back, look up what you are looking for, be it Sawyer or black smoke and viola, every page where that character, thing, etc is metioned will be displayed. In fact there are over 400 pages of facts and images on characters, items, locations, plotlines, relationships and of course mythologies. I've tried to catch it out, but honestly I think everything you could possibly wonder is in this book.
Now all I need to do it read it from cover to cover and hopefully all those questions that never got answered in the show will become clear!
The Lost Encyclopedia is authored by Paul Terry, Editor of Lost: The Official Magazine and Tara Bennett, editor of the US edition of SFX magazine and is available from all good and DK.

Glee vs. X Factorween
Happy Halloween people. After a week of Halloween entertainment the day has finally arrived. Glee and X Factor both used the spooky celebration to perform spellbinding songs, but who put in the best effort for their 'costumes'? Here are a few best picks...

Scream Again
As it’s Halloween this week, and keeping in the spirit of my last post how could I not reference the ultimate Halloween series (note this applied to my generation, others may disagree) that is Scream?
And after the sad news that Courtney Cox and David Arquette have separated, announced before the latest film from the franchise where they met and fell in love. Scream 4 won’t be around until 15th April 2011, but as its Halloween I’m sharing some teaser posters and pictures with you. One of these posters seems to show McDreamy actor Patrick Dempsey in the latest edition (he was a detective in Scream 3) but I can’t see him in the cast list on IMDB. From what I remember he was the bad guy in the third one and didn’t survive. I think it is time for me to go back and watch the Scream trilogy to remind myself!
Enjoy these pictures at your peril! More posts on Halloween TV shows to come.

Let's do the time warp again...
All I have to say is roll on Halloween week. This year Glee has gone all out with the Rocky Horror Glee show and here is a sneak peek of what to expect. You can also see Emma's full performance of Touch Me here. Check out Kurt, he looks pretty scary!

Road to recovery
So Grey's Anatomy goes documentary style next week in the 'These Arms of Mine' episode where a man is given new arms from a donor. The documentary entitled 'Seattle Medical: ON the Road to Recovery' looks at Seattle Grace six months on from the shootings. From these sneak peek clips below you can see that having a camera crew film them has gone to the heads of a few of the senior staff. But you may also notice taht Meredith and Christina, who became attendings last week, are back in their usual baby blue scrubs rather than the navy ones. Hopefully all will be explained during the episode, but for now enjoy these first looks:

The truth is out
So something major happened in Smallville this week. Clark told Lois his secret (not that she didn’t already know), but what does this mean for the future Lois and Clark that we know? He can’t fly yet, we haven’t seen him in the suit and he certainly doesn’t have the name Superman yet, but Lois already knows his secret. As Lois prepared herself to tell Clark she knew he was the Blur (and Clark contemplated telling Lois the truth) I expected that as Lois had become possessed by goddess Isis that he memory would be wiped and the secret would remain a secret... I was wrong.
But, I hope that at some point (hopefully soon) Lois will somehow forget that Clark is the Blur, as let’s face it, that would be completely going off track of Superman and remember when they did that in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman? The show sadly went downhill as Clark’s secret was part of what kept the show going. If all the main characters in Smallville know who Clark is (and the fact that Oliver has revealed his identity to the world) I can’t see how that is going to help Clark to become Superman & Clark – two different people.
I’m sure the writers have something planned, I just hope we don’t get to the end of the season with the epic finish that we know is coming and Lois still knows who the Blur...as Superman is.

Camp Glee
With Glee being such a smash hit it was only a matter of time before another network created a carbon copy and of course that network would be youth focused channel the CW. The show that’s in development is called ‘Acting Out’ and is set to be a musical, dancing dramedy, a cross between Glee and... wait for it... Bad Santa?! Writer/director of Bandslam Todd Graff and the film’s producer Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas have been recruited to develop the show which will explore the relationships of counsellors and and staff of a down-on-its-luck summer camp. Graff also wrote and directed the film Camp so I expect will be drawing on his experiences from that.
